Grade 11 German Present Tense Agreement Practice

Revision activities / German study practice

Learning focus: Grammar. This original Grade 11 German exercise gives you a task, a suggested response and a follow-up challenge. It is classroom practice, not an official assessment paper.

Understand the idea

German present-tense endings depend on the subject, and some verbs change their stem. Start with a regular verb before comparing irregular patterns.

Try the activity

Complete: ich ___ in Nairobi; wir ___ in Nairobi, using wohnen.

Attempt your response before opening the guidance. Show the steps, textual evidence or reasons that support your answer; a final answer alone may hide a misunderstanding.

Self-assessment checklist

This is your own assessment, not automatic marking.

Self-assessed checklist: 0/4

Show suggested answer and reasoning

Ich wohne in Nairobi and Wir wohnen in Nairobi. The first-person singular uses wohne, while wir uses wohnen.

Follow-up challenge

Write the same pair using lernen. Then use a class reference to compare lesen and explain why applying a regular pattern without checking can be wrong.

Review your work

  • Did you answer the question actually asked?
  • Can you explain the method or evidence in your own words?
  • What would you change if one condition in the task changed?

Use the suggested response to identify one correction, then attempt the task again without copying it. For an open-ended question, other well-supported answers may be reasonable. Ask your teacher to check interpretations or language forms where needed.
