Revision activities / English study practice
Learning focus: Listening and Speaking. This original Grade 11 English exercise gives you a task, a suggested response and a follow-up challenge. It is classroom practice, not an official assessment paper.
Understand the idea
An effective short presentation has a clear purpose, an organised message and delivery suited to the audience. Listening includes understanding and responding to other speakers.
Try the activity
Prepare a one-minute talk proposing a reading club. What structure would make the proposal clear?
Attempt your response before opening the guidance. Show the steps, textual evidence or reasons that support your answer; a final answer alone may hide a misunderstanding.

Show suggested answer and reasoning
Begin with the need, explain how the club would work, then request a specific next step. Give one concrete benefit and one practical detail, such as a meeting time. Speak audibly and leave room for a question.
Follow-up challenge
Record a rehearsal if appropriate. Check pace, filler words and whether a listener can state your proposal in one sentence.
Review your work
- Did you answer the question actually asked?
- Can you explain the method or evidence in your own words?
- What would you change if one condition in the task changed?
Use the suggested response to identify one correction, then attempt the task again without copying it. For an open-ended question, other well-supported answers may be reasonable. Ask your teacher to check interpretations or language forms where needed.
