Revision activities / French study practice
Learning focus: Grammar in Use. This original Grade 11 French exercise gives you a task, a suggested response and a follow-up challenge. It is classroom practice, not an official assessment paper.
Understand the idea
French verbs change with their subject and tense. Practise a regular pattern while remembering that frequent verbs such as être and avoir have irregular forms.
Try the activity
Complete in the present tense: Je ___ français; Nous ___ français, using parler.
Attempt your response before opening the guidance. Show the steps, textual evidence or reasons that support your answer; a final answer alone may hide a misunderstanding.

Show suggested answer and reasoning
Je parle français and Nous parlons français. The subject je takes parle; nous takes parlons in this regular -er verb pattern.
Follow-up challenge
Complete the same pattern with aimer, then compare with être using a trusted class reference. Explain why transferring one regular pattern to every verb would produce errors.
Review your work
- Did you answer the question actually asked?
- Can you explain the method or evidence in your own words?
- What would you change if one condition in the task changed?
Use the suggested response to identify one correction, then attempt the task again without copying it. For an open-ended question, other well-supported answers may be reasonable. Ask your teacher to check interpretations or language forms where needed.
