Grade 11 French Reading Detail Exercise

Revision activities / French study practice

Learning focus: Reading. This original Grade 11 French exercise gives you a task, a suggested response and a follow-up challenge. It is classroom practice, not an official assessment paper.

Understand the idea

Reading for detail means finding information that is explicitly present before adding interpretation. Short texts make it easier to check each answer against a phrase.

Try the activity

Read: Amina habite à Nairobi. Elle aime lire. Where does Amina live and what does she enjoy?

Attempt your response before opening the guidance. Show the steps, textual evidence or reasons that support your answer; a final answer alone may hide a misunderstanding.

Self-assessment checklist

This is your own assessment, not automatic marking.

Self-assessed checklist: 0/4

Show suggested answer and reasoning

She lives in Nairobi and enjoys reading. Habite identifies where she lives, while aime lire describes what she likes doing. The passage does not state her age or school.

Follow-up challenge

Write two questions in French about the passage and locate the words supporting each answer. Add a new sentence and ask a partner a question about it.

Review your work

  • Did you answer the question actually asked?
  • Can you explain the method or evidence in your own words?
  • What would you change if one condition in the task changed?

Use the suggested response to identify one correction, then attempt the task again without copying it. For an open-ended question, other well-supported answers may be reasonable. Ask your teacher to check interpretations or language forms where needed.
