Revision activities / French study practice
Learning focus: Listening and Speaking. This original Grade 11 French exercise gives you a task, a suggested response and a follow-up challenge. It is classroom practice, not an official assessment paper.
Understand the idea
A short French conversation should give each speaker a purpose and a chance to respond. Register depends on the relationship between the speakers.
Try the activity
Prepare an informal greeting using Bonjour and Comment vas-tu ? Give a possible reply.
Attempt your response before opening the guidance. Show the steps, textual evidence or reasons that support your answer; a final answer alone may hide a misunderstanding.

Show suggested answer and reasoning
Bonjour means Hello or Good day. Comment vas-tu ? asks How are you? informally. A possible reply is Je vais bien, merci. Choose the vous form when the situation calls for a more formal or plural address.
Follow-up challenge
Perform two versions with different relationships between speakers. Ask a teacher to check pronunciation and whether tu or vous is appropriate.
Review your work
- Did you answer the question actually asked?
- Can you explain the method or evidence in your own words?
- What would you change if one condition in the task changed?
Use the suggested response to identify one correction, then attempt the task again without copying it. For an open-ended question, other well-supported answers may be reasonable. Ask your teacher to check interpretations or language forms where needed.
