Biology practice tasks

Microscope Magnification Practice

Learning area: Cell Biology and Diversity. Magnification compares image size with actual size. Both measurements must use the same unit before division; a larger image is not automatically a more detailed image.

Plant Transport Investigation

Learning area: Anatomy and Physiology of Plants. Water movement in plants can be studied by observing a coloured water pathway or comparing water loss under controlled conditions. A conclusion should match what was actually measured.

Digestion and Absorption Case Exercise

Learning area: Anatomy and Physiology of Animals. Digestion breaks large food molecules into smaller molecules. Absorption transfers digested nutrients across a surface into the body’s transport systems; these are different processes.

How to use the Biology guide

  1. Choose a task from a topic already covered in class.
  2. Write your own response before opening the answer guidance.
  3. Compare the method and reasoning, not only the final answer.
  4. Complete the follow-up challenge and record one point to revisit.

Plan your next revision session

Keep a short record with the activity name, date, what you could do independently and what still needs explanation. Return to an earlier task after a gap to check whether you can apply the idea without looking at the model response. Work with a teacher or study partner when your interpretation differs from the suggested answer.
