Revision activities / History and Citizenship study practice
Learning focus: Themes in World History and Citizenship. This original Grade 11 History and Citizenship exercise gives you a task, a suggested response and a follow-up challenge. It is classroom practice, not an official assessment paper.
Understand the idea
Historical causation often involves several interacting conditions. A trigger helps explain timing but does not necessarily account for the deeper background.
Try the activity
Using a world-history event studied in class, distinguish a long-term cause, an immediate trigger and a consequence.
Attempt your response before opening the guidance. Show the steps, textual evidence or reasons that support your answer; a final answer alone may hide a misunderstanding.

Show suggested answer and reasoning
Name the event and provide a supported example for each category. Explain the link between the cause and the event, identify the action that precipitated it, then describe an outcome that followed.
Follow-up challenge
Draw a timeline with dates and a separate causal diagram. Explain why events occurring one after another do not, by themselves, prove causation.
Review your work
- Did you answer the question actually asked?
- Can you explain the method or evidence in your own words?
- What would you change if one condition in the task changed?
Use the suggested response to identify one correction, then attempt the task again without copying it. For an open-ended question, other well-supported answers may be reasonable. Ask your teacher to check interpretations or language forms where needed.
