Revision activities / CRE study practice
Learning focus: The New Testament. This original Grade 11 CRE exercise gives you a task, a suggested response and a follow-up challenge. It is classroom practice, not an official assessment paper.
Understand the idea
A parable uses a story or comparison to communicate meaning. Interpretation should consider the immediate audience, the surrounding passage and the question the story addresses.
Try the activity
Using the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:25–37, explain the connection between the story and the question about being a neighbour.
Attempt your response before opening the guidance. Show the steps, textual evidence or reasons that support your answer; a final answer alone may hide a misunderstanding.

Show suggested answer and reasoning
The story follows a discussion about loving one’s neighbour. The Samaritan acts with compassion toward the injured traveller, shifting attention from limiting the category of neighbour to showing mercy through action.
Follow-up challenge
Identify two actions in the passage that support your answer. Separate the events narrated from a modern example you choose to illustrate the lesson.
Review your work
- Did you answer the question actually asked?
- Can you explain the method or evidence in your own words?
- What would you change if one condition in the task changed?
Use the suggested response to identify one correction, then attempt the task again without copying it. For an open-ended question, other well-supported answers may be reasonable. Ask your teacher to check interpretations or language forms where needed.
