Grade 11 Business Environment Case Analysis

Revision activities / Business Studies study practice

Learning focus: Business and Its Environment. This original Grade 11 Business Studies exercise gives you a task, a suggested response and a follow-up challenge. It is classroom practice, not an official assessment paper.

Understand the idea

A business operates within internal and external conditions. Analysis should show how a change affects costs, demand, supply or decisions.

Try the activity

A school stationery shop faces a new competitor and higher transport charges. Classify these changes and suggest a response to each.

Attempt your response before opening the guidance. Show the steps, textual evidence or reasons that support your answer; a final answer alone may hide a misunderstanding.

Show suggested answer and reasoning

Both are external changes. Competition may affect demand or pricing, while transport increases supply costs. The shop could improve service and product availability, and compare delivery arrangements without assuming price cuts are always affordable.

Follow-up challenge

Write a short recommendation with a benefit, cost and possible drawback for each response. Distinguish facts in the case from your assumptions.

Review your work

  • Did you answer the question actually asked?
  • Can you explain the method or evidence in your own words?
  • What would you change if one condition in the task changed?

Use the suggested response to identify one correction, then attempt the task again without copying it. For an open-ended question, other well-supported answers may be reasonable. Ask your teacher to check interpretations or language forms where needed.
