Revision activities / Electricity study practice
Learning focus: Fundamentals of Electricity. This original Grade 11 Electricity exercise gives you a task, a suggested response and a follow-up challenge. It is classroom practice, not an official assessment paper.
Understand the idea
Ohm’s law relates potential difference, current and resistance for an ohmic conductor under suitable conditions. Circuit quantities need consistent units.
Try the activity
A 6 V supply is connected across a 3 Ω resistor. Calculate current and resistor power.
Attempt your response before opening the guidance. Show the steps, textual evidence or reasons that support your answer; a final answer alone may hide a misunderstanding.

Show suggested answer and reasoning
I = V/R = 6/3 = 2 A. Power P = VI = 6 × 2 = 12 W. These values describe the stated ideal circuit; a real component must have an appropriate rating.
Follow-up challenge
Repeat for a 6 Ω resistor at the same voltage. Explain why connecting components without considering their ratings can be unsafe. Use paper calculations or a supervised low-voltage teaching kit only.
Review your work
- Did you answer the question actually asked?
- Can you explain the method or evidence in your own words?
- What would you change if one condition in the task changed?
Use the suggested response to identify one correction, then attempt the task again without copying it. For an open-ended question, other well-supported answers may be reasonable. Ask your teacher to check interpretations or language forms where needed.
