Grade 11 Livestock Feed Ration Comparison

Revision activities / Agriculture study practice

Learning focus: Animal Production. This original Grade 11 Agriculture exercise gives you a task, a suggested response and a follow-up challenge. It is classroom practice, not an official assessment paper.

Understand the idea

Feed decisions depend on the animal’s species, age, production stage, water supply and feed quality. Cheap feed per kilogram can be poor value if it supplies too little usable nutrition.

Try the activity

Two dairy feeds cost KSh 40 and KSh 50 per kilogram. Can you conclude that the first feed is better value? State four further facts you need.

Attempt your response before opening the guidance. Show the steps, textual evidence or reasons that support your answer; a final answer alone may hide a misunderstanding.

Show suggested answer and reasoning

No. Compare nutrient composition, digestibility, appropriate daily intake and the animal’s requirements. Also consider spoilage and whether the feed is safe. A balanced ration supplies energy, protein, minerals and vitamins alongside adequate clean water; price alone cannot establish suitability.

Follow-up challenge

Draw a comparison table without inventing nutrient values. Identify information that should come from a feed label, a livestock specialist or an actual feeding record.

Review your work

  • Did you answer the question actually asked?
  • Can you explain the method or evidence in your own words?
  • What would you change if one condition in the task changed?

Use the suggested response to identify one correction, then attempt the task again without copying it. For an open-ended question, other well-supported answers may be reasonable. Ask your teacher to check interpretations or language forms where needed.
