Revision activities / Computer Studies study practice
Learning focus: Foundation of Computer Studies. This original Grade 11 Computer Studies exercise gives you a task, a suggested response and a follow-up challenge. It is classroom practice, not an official assessment paper.
Understand the idea
A computer system includes hardware, software, users and procedures. Choosing equipment requires matching requirements to a task rather than selecting the largest specification.
Try the activity
A school needs computers for word processing and basic programming. Identify four requirements to check before purchase.
Attempt your response before opening the guidance. Show the steps, textual evidence or reasons that support your answer; a final answer alone may hide a misunderstanding.

Show suggested answer and reasoning
Check software compatibility, adequate memory and storage, processor suitability, and reliability or support. Also consider electricity, accessibility, peripherals and total cost. An expensive graphics card may not be necessary for the stated tasks.
Follow-up challenge
Prepare a requirements table with essential and optional features. State the source of each proposed specification instead of inventing a universal minimum.
Review your work
- Did you answer the question actually asked?
- Can you explain the method or evidence in your own words?
- What would you change if one condition in the task changed?
Use the suggested response to identify one correction, then attempt the task again without copying it. For an open-ended question, other well-supported answers may be reasonable. Ask your teacher to check interpretations or language forms where needed.
